1 SYDFEn BasicsConcept

SYDFEn is one of Sytronix (Smart Interplay of Hydraulics and Electronics) systems presented by Rexroth. FcP (Frequency-controlled Pump drive) and SvP (Servo-variable Pump drive) are the other two parts of Sytronix system shown below.

SYDFEn, this Sytronix drive, combines matched electric motors, hydraulic pumps, and VFDs (Variable Frequency Drives), which has the potential of significant energy savings and a considerable reduction in noise emissions at a cost that provides an attractive return on investment.

By integrating the advantages of hydraulics with the control intelligence of electrical drives, motor speeds can be continually adjusted to match the machine’s requirements. The drive speed of the pump can be lowered to an energy efficient, quiet level when the process requires less than full performance. By having a major portion of the machine cycle time matched to the part-load requirement, energy is saved and noise is reduced.

Control Principle

SYDFEn system consists of an electro-hydraulically-controlled axial piston pump driven by a variable speed asynchronous motor for controlling pressure, flow and power without throttling losses in the power train.

The system can be operated in two function modes: In “Teach-in” mode, the cyclically recurring pressure and flow rate profiles are stored once in the electronics, so that the system is accelerated in good time prior to a flow rate increase. On the other hand, “Real-time mode” can be used in non-cyclical machines (e.g. wood working/metallurgy). In this case the controller calculates during the process the optimal combination of the rotational speed of the motor and the swivel angle position for maximum energy saving.

Sensors detect the current system pressure as well as the current engine speed and transfer these values to the pump-integrated digital on-board control electronics. After matching the current actual values with the target values transmitted by the control, the integrated control calculates the optimal speed for the entire drive strain.
The system operates an axial piston pump and its delivery volume can be adjusted through the pivot angle. The specialty of the SYDFEn system is that the hydraulic volume flow rate can be adjusted by adjusting the pivot angle, as well as by changing the rotational speed of the electric engine. Compared to the other Sytronix Variable Speed Pump Drives, the SYDFEn system’s additional degree of freedom ensures a significant reduction of the strain on the electric engine under the same hydraulic conditions. The control system is available for pumps of the series A10 and A4, and can therefore be used for a wide range of applications.

Configuration

The SYDFEn closed-loop control system, with nominal pump volumes ranging from 18 to 355 cc, permits a uniform closed-loop control concept for a wide range of machine sizes. The electronic variants available allow it to be used in many different types of machines.
